FACE it... we all feel lonely from time to time. Feelings of loneliness are personal, so everyone's experience of loneliness will be different.
One common description of loneliness is the feeling we get when our need for rewarding social contact and relationships is not met. But loneliness is not always the same as being alone. Sometimes we can feel lonely in a crowd full of people, but quite peaceful and content when alone.
Right now you may be feeling a great deal of loneliness, but you are not alone. Many of us are struggling with this feeling during this pandemic so I've put together a list of things you can do today to help curb those feelings of loneliness.
FACE it… face the loneliness. Don’t shove it away. Name it and validate it. Give yourself permission to feel the loneliness… and recognize you have it and want to get through it.
LOVE it… embrace it. Like an old friend, grab your journal or your mind dump pages, and write to your loneliness as if you are having a conversation with it. Take the time to listen to it and learn why it is there. This is an opportunity for growth.
SELF-LOVE it … love yourself and take the time for some self care during this time. Reconnect with what you need to get your psychological needs met.
GIVE it…In times when we feel sad or alone it helps to get out of your own head and give back. How can you be of service or be philanthropic in your community or world right now, even if it is from the comfort of your own home? You can also reach out to someone you know who might be feeling similar feelings of loneliness.
TALK it… connect with a friend over the phone, be very intentional with retail workers when you are out, find ways to talk to someone LIVE each and every day.
JOIN it… connect with people virtually in a club or group. Research your favorite hobbies or interests to find social media groups. Just like our FACE it...group, we are ready and waiting to connect… so start a conversation thread!
ADOPT it… pets are a wonderful way to connect! There are so many pets who are looking for love and a safe home. Contact your local shelter today!
If you haven’t joined our private FACE it… Facebook group please do! I go live every Monday at 10am PST for Mindset Monday. I would love to see you there.
